Robert G Voltera Speaks at Asia International Arbitration Centre London Roundtable

On 17 July 2026, Volterra Fietta partner Robert G Volterra spoke at the Asia International Arbitration Centre London Roundtable on “Artificial Justice: Deciphering AI-Generated Fairness in Arbitration”.  Robert discussed the growing use of AI in legal practice and dispute resolution, focusing on the limits of current AI tools and the risks associated with their use.

Robert examined the distinction between what is today described as AI versus actual artificial intelligence.  He noted that current AI systems can be used carefully as tools for preliminary information retrieval and text generation but they are not reliable as substitutes for independent research, strategic analysis or professional judgment.  A central theme of the discussion at the roundtable was the risk of “AI hallucinations”, where AI systems generate inaccurate or even fabricated information.  For his part, Robert emphasised that AI as currently developed cannot replace the knowledge, research skills, and professional judgment required of legal practitioners.  He noted that reliance on AI-generated content without appropriate human oversight and expert review has been shown to create significant risks for clients.  Robert suggested that current AI tools should be viewed as an aid to legal practitioners, not a replacement for legal expertise.
