Ahmed Abdel-Hakam, Partner at Volterra Fietta, has been appointed to the International Law Committee of the New York City Bar Association

On 21 November 2024, Volterra Fietta partner Ahmed Abdel-Hakam was appointed to the International Law Committee of the New York City Bar Association.  Ahmed’s selection by the New York City Bar Association was made despite the fact that he is not a member of the Association or even qualified to practice in New York.  It reflects the global peer-recognition of his expertise in international law.  It also testifies to the New York City legal market’s recognition of Volterra Fietta’s expertise in representing clients in major international law matters around the world, including in the United States.

The International Law Committee is a forum for discussing all matters of public international law, including the practice of international law.  By way of example, issues concerning international tribunals and international dispute resolution, the law of treaties, the content of customary international law, the role and presentation of international law in US courts, the use of force, extraterritorial jurisdiction and anti-terrorism measures are among the topics considered by this Committee.

Ahmed Abdel-Hakam’s new role complements his ongoing roles as a member of the dispute resolution committee of the Law Society of England & Wales and Co-Chair of the dispute resolution section of the African Society of International Law.
