Tahir Thompson

Staff Lawyer

Tahir is qualified to practice law in Jamaica.  He holds an LLB (Hons) from the University of the West Indies (Mona) and a Legal Education Certificate from the Norman Manley Law School.  He has completed an MSt in Diplomatic Studies at the University of Oxford, where he studied as a Commonwealth Scholar.

Before joining Volterra Fietta, Tahir served as Assistant Crown Counsel in the Attorney-General’s Chambers of Jamaica.  He advised the government on public international law, human rights, treaties, and environmental matters within the International Affairs Division.  He also gained extensive civil litigation and dispute resolution experience before Jamaican courts while working in the Chambers’ Litigation and State Proceedings Division and at a leading private law firm.

Tahir has interests in public international law and international dispute settlement, particularly the interaction between international law and diplomacy.  His MSt dissertation focused on the use of contractual mechanisms in contemporary climate diplomacy and their implications for distributive justice in international climate cooperation.
