Ben Burnham

Ben is qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales and an attorney at law in New York.  He has over thirteen years’ experience in international dispute resolution, having acted for corporations, high net worth individuals and States or State-owned entities in complex, high-value disputes across a wide range of industry sectors. 

Ben began his career as assistant to a leading international arbitrator and has participated as counsel or tribunal secretary in investor-State and commercial arbitrations under all major institutional arbitration rules, as well as in ad hoc proceedings.  He has acted for States in proceedings before the International Court of Justice, Inter-American Court of Human Rights and arbitral tribunals. He has significant experience of arbitration and public international law-related proceedings before the English courts, including the Court of Appeal. He has also advised clients on matters pertaining to cross-border investment structuring.  

Ben has been recommended since 2020 in the Legal 500: International Arbitration. He has been recognised repeatedly as a “Future Leader” in arbitration by Who’s Who Legal and as “One to Watch” in the UK edition of Best Lawyers.  He holds an LLM in public international law from the University of Leiden and an MA in law from the University of Cambridge.  He has delivered guest lectures on international investment law at LLM level and authored various publications on international dispute resolution subjects.
